I just had to write a song to help celebrate Stacey Jones reaching the milestone of 250 first grade appearances for the New Zealand Warriors. Stacey is a living league legend and deserves to be treated with the utmost respect. He has been bagged relentlessly by media and fans alike. Some of the forum posts I’ve read have made me want to vomit. Some people just love to ridicule champions. Congratulations Stacey and well done for winning on the night as well. Up the Warriors!!

Warriors Fail to Overcome Sharks

I’ve just come back from the pub after watching the Warriors get beaten by the Cronulla Sharks. The Warriors won the 2nd half 6 – 0 but that doesn’t mean much when you lose the 1st half 18 – 4. Something just isn’t clicking within the team at the moment and the most worrying thing today, for me, was the fact they could obtain good field position for lengthy periods without converting opportunities into points. I think Ivan Cleary is right when he says it’s a confidence issue but it’s hard to imagine why they are not confident.

Warrior dropped balls and poor defensive reads contributed to the Sharks jumping to an 18 – 0 lead. The Warriors got back on top late in the first half and well into the second, until dropped balls once again wrecked any chance of turning things around. Manu Vatuvei’s try was a beauty. The attack leading up to Stacey Jones’ kick looked a bit desperate though. The commentators had to comment on how much Manu has improved his handling. That never gets old, does it?

It was good to see Lewis Brown score a try today. He has really shown a lot of enthusiasm when he’s come on to the field from the bench. It was a shame for Lance Hohaia to be greeted with an 18 – 0 scoreline when he finally got a chance at dummy half. I think the time has come to bring Ian Henderson back into the fray. Two games for the Vulcans should’ve shaken any complacency out of him.

All in all, I can still see the promise of better things to come for the Warriors. I’m looking forward to seeing them smash the Knights at home next Friday night. After that they can have a rest with the bye, and then start winning a bunch of consecutive games together in order to scrape into the bottom of the Top 8! Once they’re there, anything can happen!

2009 NRL – Round 3 Preview

This preview of round 3 of the National Rugby League competition was uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday the 25th of March. I made a very bold prediction regarding Denan Kemp and the scoring of two tries. I haven’t watched the game yet but I know he didn’t score, but oh well, never mind. I picked all of the home teams for the round 3 games and if Manly beat Penrith tomorrow night (fingers crossed) I’ll end up with 6 out of 8. Not bad!

I reiterated my excitement at seeing Stacey Jones returning for the Warriors and seconded Steve Price’s call to include him as an immortal. I was disappointed to find that Rugby League Week had not included the Little General in their team of the week, especially after they had rated him an 8 out of 10 for his performance against Manly. I predicted the Warriors would belt the Brisbane Broncos……I was wrong!

2009 NRL – Round 2 Review

Episode 9 of the Aussie Warriors Fan Show just happened to be the round 2 review instalment. I tried to put a positive spin on the fact I only picked 5 out of 8 winners with my tips. I was over the moon about the Warriors beating Manly at Brookvale and revealed my long awaited top 5 players for the round.

2009 NRL – Round 2 Preview

This preview of round 2 of the National Rugby League competition was uploaded to YouTube on Thursday the 19th of March (I can’t believe that was only 10 days ago). I made my fearless footy tips and thanked my newest YouTube subscribers. I predicted a tight contest between the Warriors and the Sea Eagles and, once again, I was right.

I didn’t do as well with the tipping as I did with round 1 but I still managed to get more right than wrong, and that’s the main thing. I cemented my place near the top of the league I’m in on the Vodafone One Tribe website’s tipping comp. I mentioned how excited I was in anticipation of Stacey Jones’ return to the NRL.
