Kevin Locke Hat-trick Rap
A couple of Sundays ago, on the 27rh of June, I went down to the pub and watched the Warriors play the Roosters. It was round 16 of the 2010 NRL competition. The game was a home game for the Roosters but they elected to play it in Wellington, NZ. It was wet and wild in Wellington so conditions were not ideal for a free flowing game of rugby league. The Roosters seemed to be on top for much of the game but thanks to a hat-trick of tries to Kevin Locke (the man no one calls ‘the road runner’) the Warriors scraped home in the last minute of the game.
Manu Vatuvei scored in the corner with about 8 minutes to go and James Maloney converted the try from the sideline to pull the Warriors to within 4 points of the Roosters. With 2 minutes on the clock I contemplated leaving the pub but decided not too. I knew I’d be terribly disappointed if I left and my team managed to snare a last minute victory. I’m so glad I didn’t leave. Lance Hohaia put the little grubber kick through and Kevin Locke chased it like a demon, gave it another kick and then put his body on the line to score the try next to the post. In doing so he managed to bang himself pretty bad. His heroics inspired me to write this song and put it up on the internet for everyone to witness. The Warriors rock!
