I just had to write a song to help celebrate Stacey Jones reaching the milestone of 250 first grade appearances for the New Zealand Warriors. Stacey is a living league legend and deserves to be treated with the utmost respect. He has been bagged relentlessly by media and fans alike. Some of the forum posts I’ve read have made me want to vomit. Some people just love to ridicule champions. Congratulations Stacey and well done for winning on the night as well. Up the Warriors!! This is my latest song about the New Zealand Warrior’s opposition teams in the NRL. I uploaded this to YouTube on Thursday and luckily, for me, the mighty Warriors smashed the Newcastle Knights 13 to nil. Stacey Jones celebrated his 250th NRL appearance with a strong victory. Kevin Locke was really impressive again on the wing and I really like the look of Lewis Brown. He is really enthusiastic and worked tirelessly in atrocious conditions to help secure the Warrior’s win. Read the rest of this entry »
I’ve just come back from the pub after watching the Warriors get beaten by the Cronulla Sharks. The Warriors won the 2nd half 6 – 0 but that doesn’t mean much when you lose the 1st half 18 – 4. Something just isn’t clicking within the team at the moment and the most worrying thing today, for me, was the fact they could obtain good field position for lengthy periods without converting opportunities into points. I think Ivan Cleary is right when he says it’s a confidence issue but it’s hard to imagine why they are not confident.
Warrior dropped balls and poor defensive reads contributed to the Sharks jumping to an 18 – 0 lead. The Warriors got back on top late in the first half and well into the second, until dropped balls once again wrecked any chance of turning things around. Manu Vatuvei’s try was a beauty. The attack leading up to Stacey Jones’ kick looked a bit desperate though. The commentators had to comment on how much Manu has improved his handling. That never gets old, does it? I posted this clip to YouTube yesterday morning. It’s a quirky little song I wrote and arranged a couple of days ago to celebrate (in advance) the Warrior’s annihilation of the Cronulla Sharks. Now I just hope it happens! Anyway, even if the Warriors lose (I’m sure they won’t) the clip will be relevant one day……and when that day arrives I will be a happy rugby league fan! The Warriors returned to the winner’s list last weekend with an emphatic win over the toothless Wests Tigers. I forgot to make this post with my new video sooner. It was featured on the official Warriors website prior to the game. Thanks for that guys!! Thanks to the Warriors players too….for delivering a performance to brighten the supporters hopes. Great stuff! Read the rest of this entry »
…it was just lucky no one was killed…and now for sport…
The world’s best rugby league player is set to turn his back on the game. Sources close to the Brisbane Broncos have revealed Darren Lockyer’s desire to make a name for himself in the world of fashion. He hopes to release a range of muppet related pyjamas in time for Christmas 2009.
…unfortunately the only witness was a dog…and now for sport…
Paul Gallon insists he hasn’t gone soft. The Cronulla Sharks hard man has convinced his club to allow him to open his own hair dressing salon. When asked if he preferred styling lady’s hair to playing rugby league he giggled and held his hand over his mouth. He’s so bashful! Read the rest of this entry »
This is the long awaited video for my song about the Canberra Raiders. Unfortunately, for New Zealand Warriors supporters, the score line ended up with the big numbers on the wrong side. I’m afraid this song will not be valid until the Warriors meet the Raiders in their next encounter. The green machine won’t have it so easy next time. Read the rest of this entry »
I really think this song will be enjoyed as much by Cowboys supporters as it will be by New Zealand Warriors fans. Rugby league followers in North Queensland are amongst the most realistic, grounded individuals on the planet. They are more likely to realise and accept the superiority the Warriors have over their team than supporters of most other NRL clubs would. Read the rest of this entry »
I purchased a band from the Sonny Fai Wristband Appeal and it arrived during the flood clean up. I wanted to write a piece of music inspired by the life and power of Sonny Fai. I wore the wristband during the whole process, from writing and arranging through to performing and recording. Rugby league fans, and fans of the New Zealand Warriors especially, will remember Sonny’s short but ultra-positive contribution for many years to come. Don’t give up!
I’ve tried to continue with my theme of belittling the opposition in this marvellous anthem dedicated to clashes between the New Zealand Warriors and the Brisbane Broncos. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the Broncos have upset the apple cart by defeating our army clad in black. We’ll get ‘em next time and then my song will take on a whole new relevance.
